The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.

A Season of Dominance

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.

In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Historic Statistics

Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.

She earned almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.

Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".

Additional WTA Award Recipients

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
