It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the record chasers, are all that remain for a team that has achieved everything.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the opportunity.

In the end, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a platform to produce her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her debut and seven international trophies have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

Whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it has been a disappointing period because it appeared I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive nature take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and after that the right-hander was in motion.

"An opportunity to take the field and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was out her side required another 66 at one run per ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the belief to do that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can succeed."

Those words will be the last competing nations at this championship want to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this triumph following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
