A trio of officers were killed and more than a dozen others got wounded in what appears to be premeditated gas explosion at a country home in the northern part of Italy.
How It Happened
The explosion was triggered as officers and emergency crews entered the property close to the city of Verona to enforce an eviction order for a brother and sister trio aged in their 50s and 60s.
All three deceased individuals belonged to the Carabinieri force.

A man and a woman were arrested at the scene and another man who escaped following the incident was found not long after. The trio have been taken to the hospital.
The blast could be heard approximately 5 kilometers away and images from the scene showed the building reduced to a pile of rubble.
“We are in a period of mourning,” said the Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who added that attempts had been made to displace the brother and sister trio in the past.
Property Situation
The leader of the Veneto area, the regional head, stated the farmhouse was subject to an court order due to unpaid amounts accumulated by the siblings.
Conflict resolution experts had been dispatched to speak to the family members who had secured themselves into the property. When the Carabinieri arrived shortly after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), officials believe one of the siblings caused the detonation.
“Upon entering the house, we were confronted with an act of absolute madness,” local police chief Commander Papagno stated to reporters.
A gas canister had been activated, and the detonation immediately struck our officers,” he explained.
Molotov cocktails were also located at the residence, the minister confirmed.

Those injured by the blast included eleven more officers of the Carabinieri as well as a trio of personnel of national police and a emergency responder.
As stated by the prosecuting attorney, the property was in a dilapidated shape and had was without power.
The prosecutor believed the blast had happened on a story above the entrance and informed the press it was a “premeditated and voluntary homicide”. Moments before the blast, he revealed personnel had “noticed a hissing sound, presumably the gas cylinders being opened”.
Neighbor Statements
“We all knew the situation was dire,” local residents informed local news, mentioning that the family members had in the past stated to “detonate the property” rather than be evicted.
“The explosion had left a ‘terrible, very painful and dramatic toll’.”
