A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a plethora of pastimes much better than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and using meditation skills to avoid arguing with loved ones. I hope you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments surfaced during the festive period, and just in case you didn't see some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Without a doubt the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to halt more episodes. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a positive development. However, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they could be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio renowned for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has yet to be revealed.
